History to Pictures:
Soccer is rich in tradition.  It was first introduced in this area in 1904.  The first official league (Sacramento Soccer League) was started in 1914 with four teams.  Those teams were the Sacramento A.C., Occidentals, Dolphins & Jubilee Rovers.  One of the finest players in this area during this time was Elmer Congdon who played Jubilee Rovers.  In 1916, the Rovers were the only holdover from the starting clubs in 1914.  The Acorns, Golden Puppies and Riverside A.C.'s were added.  In 1917, Grass Valley was brought into the fold and after the war Mckinley A.C.'s, National Guards and Eagles were taken in.  Southside A.C.'s got into the act in 1919 and until 1940 the game flourished.  What actually killed the sport was the discontinuance of competition in grammar school.  No new players were developed, which also killed the interest as far as the fans were concerned.
